Valverde is said to have waited for Baena in the car park of the Santiago Bernabeu and attacked him after Villarreal beat Real Madrid 2-1 on Saturday. There has been a lot of uncertainty regarding what seems to have provoked this reaction from Valverde. Villarreal and Baena though have decided to report Valverde to the police for alleged assault.
Villarreal put out a statement condemning Valverde for his alleged assault. The statement said, ‘Villarreal CF player Alex Baena was assaulted last night while on his way to the team bus after the match against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.’
The statement continued, ‘Faced with this situation, the player has decided to file a complaint against the aggressor with the police. Once again, Villarreal CF rejects any act of violence and firmly believes in the player’s version of events and will support him throughout this process.’

Alleged story behind the scuffle
The Los Blancos midfielder allegedly lost his cool when Baena, 21, allegedly made a remark about his wife’s possible pregnancy scare during a Copa del Rey match between the two clubs in January. The two are rumoured to have clashed during this weekend’s league match as a result of their ongoing quarrel.
When Villarreal defeated Real Madrid 3-2 on Saturday, according to reports, Valverde confronted Baena in the team buses’ parking lot outside the Bernabeu. Valverde is alleged to have waited for Baena in the Santiago Bernabeu parking lot and attacked him. According to Spanish sources, Villarreal has a video of the alleged encounter.

Baena has completely denied the allegation. In a tweet retweeted by Villarreal’s official handle, Baena said, ‘Very happy with the team’s impressive victory in a venue like the Santiago Bernabéu, but at the same time very sad for the aggression I suffered after the game and surprised by what is being said about me. IT IS COMPLETELY FALSE THAT I SAID THAT.’
Valverde’s wife releases emotional statement
Even Valverde’s wife was part of this turmoil and did not shy away from sharing her feelings after everything that transpired. She shared an emotional statement, which said, ‘Do I have to explain why they told me that my pregnancy could not continue? We were silent for almost two months waiting for the result to know whether or not we could continue, having already five months of pregnancy.’
She continued, ‘I have already gone through enough for them to come and question me about my son’s health. Despite everything, from the bottom of my heart, I don’t wish anyone to go through a similar situation.’
Thankfully Valverde and Mina’s child is believed to be healthy, with Mina updating fans on Instagram last month that she was “six months into it”. With Villarreal filing an official complaint against Valverde, it will be interesting to see how this story develops.
