After Madrid’s match against Valladolid on the weekend, their next match is against Barcelona in the middle of next week. They are meeting for the Copa Del Rey semi-final 2nd leg and Barcelona have the upper hand as they won the first leg with a 1-goal margin. Madrid will try to have a win in the bag before they face Barcelona. However, they still have a chance of lifting the Champions League trophy along with the Copa Del Rey. Hence, they could just be concentrating on those competitions than the league.
During the pre-match press conference, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti addressed the rumours on his future saying, “I’m not surprised that there are rumours. But, it doesn’t worry me. I’m just hoping to stay here for as long as Real Madrid allow me to… We’ll try to win titles over these couple of months and then I hope to continue.”
He added, “Nobody knows what can happen in the future. If the Brazilian national team want me, that’s exciting and nice to hear… I don’t know the Brazilian FA president. If he wants to talk to me, I’d talk to him and greet him.”
Ancelotti also talked about whether rumours of him joining Brazil or rumours of Vinicius Tobias’ future are becoming distracting for the team. He said, “We’re very focused on what we have to do. We’re not thinking about what the press says, about whether I’ll stay or whether certain players will stay. We hear those rumours, but we’re not worried. We’re thinking about Real Valladolid, Barcelona, Chelsea, etc.”
On the other hand, Valladolid are one of the 8 teams in the league that are still in danger of falling into the relegation zone. They were promoted to La Liga this year after finishing in the 2nd position in the Spanish league’s second division, so they will try to keep away from relegation. However, their away form has not helped them as they have only won 2 of their away matches this season. Adding to the fact that they will be facing the 2nd-positioned Madrid in Santiago Bernabeu means they could just be dropping points again in this fixture.
