Elche’s from this season has been incredibly poor as they have only won 2 games, while drawn 7 and lost 17 out of the 26 games they have played. They were having the best run since the 1970s as this was their 3rd successive promotion to La Liga’s first division. However, their condition seems bleak as they have a 14-point gap from the 17th-placed Espanyol. Closing that huge point gap as they face the table toppers next seems impossible as well.

The league is in its closing stages and while it is still possible that Barcelona still can bottle such a lead, it seems impossible. Additionally, their focus is now only on the national league and Copa Del Rey where they also have a lead over Real Madrid in their semi-final 1st leg. With a chance to win a double, it can be guessed that they will not be taking this match lightly and will manage a win.
During the pre-match press conference, about facing Elche Barcelona boss Xavi said, “We don’t think about the next game, just tomorrow. We don’t know what they’ll do with the change of manager. They have little to lose. They’ll make them proud.“
About the possibility of Messi coming back to Barcelona next season, he said, “Messi is an option we are dealing with, and I have a friendship with him. I would like him to come back to help us. - Elche have both suspension and injury concerns as they face Barcelona this weekend. They will miss both Lucas Boye and Pape Cheikh owing to suspension.
- Their injury list consists of Alex Collado suffering from an abductor muscle tear, Lisandro Magallan suffering from a hamstring injury, John Donald suffering from a fibula fracture, and Enzo Roco suffering from a muscular strain.
- The good news for the side has been the return of Pere Milla. The 30-year-old is Elche’s top goalscorer and will give their side a boost as they face a mighty opponent next.
