Estoril Open LIVE: Ruud vs Baez LIVE – Top seed Casper Ruud will be in action in his first quarterfinal match of the season. The Norwegian will be facing fifth seed Sebastian Baez for a spot in the semifinal of the tournament. Ruud defeated Joao Sousa in straight sets in the second round. - Casper Ruud started the year as the World No.3 after a terrific season in 2022. He finished as runner-up in two Grand Slam events last year.
- Ruud was expected to continue his form this year. However he has disappointed so far with dismal performances.
- He began the season with a first round exit at the ASB Classic. Following his US Open final appearance, he was expected to make a deep run at the Australian Open.
- The Norwegian however bowed out from the second round. He lost against unseeded Jenson Brooksby in four sets.
- After the Australian Open, he took a break from the tour for two month and made his return in the Mexican Open at March.
- At the Acapulco, he yet again suffered second round defeat as he lost in three sets against unseeded Taro Daniel.
- He then played in the Indian Wells and Miami Open and failed to go past the third round in both the tournaments.
- The 24-year old now aims to enter his first quarterfinal in the season this year.
- Sebastian Baez is the fifth seed in the tournament. He looks to reach the semifinal for the third time in a clay court tournament in the ATP Tour this year.
- Baez is yet to drop a set in the tournament. He clinched victories against Radu Albot and Pedro Cachin in his two matches in the tournament.
- He began the season with first round exits at Maharashtra Open, ASB Classic and Australian Open.
- His first title victory of the season came at the Cordoba Open. In the clay court tournament, he defeated Federico Coria in the final.
- He then reached the quarterfinal at Rio Open and the semifinal at Chile Open.
- Before the Estoril Open, he bowed out from the second round at the Indian Wells Masters and first round at Miami Open 2023.
