The Sanju Samson led Royals slumped to a narrow defeat to Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings on Wednesday. The Punjab Kings scored 197 runs while batting first. Shikhar Dhawan batted the entire innings, scoring 86 runs in 59 deliveries, while uncapped batter Prabhsimran set the pace with a quickfire 34-ball 60.
Sanju Samson’s 42 runs helped the Royals get off to a strong start after they lost their first two wickets. The middle overs saw a decline in scoring, though, as Nathan Ellis claimed 4 wickets. At the close of the innings, Shimron Hetmeyer and Dhruv Jurel delivered some ferocious blows, but it was in vain as RR fell short by 5 runs.
David Warner’s Delhi Capitals lost to Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. Gujarat Titans were 54/3 in the Powerplay while attempting to hunt down 162, but Sai Sudharsan led the charge with a valiant 48-ball 62 not out. He and David Miller (31 not out; 16b) combined for a match-winning 56-run unbroken partnership as they easily won the game with 11 balls remaining.
Prior to that, Gujarat Titans utilised a methodical bowling approach to limit Delhi Capitals to 162/8. Rashid Khan, an able Afghanistan spinner, was the top GT bowler (3/31) while Mohammed Shami (3/41) and Alzarri Joseph (2/29) made a strong opening pair after captain Hardik Pandya elected to bowl.
