MS Dhoni was given a heroes welcome at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday. After CSK invited the crowd to watch their practice, many peered into the pavilion to see Dhoni training in the gym. He then returned to the sidelines before hitting the nets in front of a noisy Chepauk crowd.
As per Sportstar, Dhoni seemed initially hesitant to take the nets and wore a camouflage kneecap to partially shield his left leg. The former India captain then stretched and pressed his leg towards the ground to assess his condition. he then walked out to the nets with a roar from the crowd. It was Dhoni’s first appearance on the ground since his international retirement.
CSK’s concerns grew further when Dhoni ran gingerly in the nets. A fierce runner between the wickets, he was cautious to not exert more pressure. He felt discomfort in his knee and often paused midway and was limited complete a run. It is not good news for CSK, who begin their campaign against Gujarat Titans in 3 days’ time.

What would Dhoni’s injury mean to CSK?
Dhoni’s injury would spell a crisis for CSK. Not only will they have to find a suitable captaincy pick, but also find an able gloveman. Ben Stokes, who many believe, will take over from Dhoni, could push to lead should Dhoni’s injury aggravate. Ambati Rayudu, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway are keeping options in place.
The 41-year-old’s condition will be further assessed on Tuesday. CSK will have another training session at the Chepauk before travelling to Ahmedabad. Dhoni will attend the captain’s meet on March 30 before gearing up for the IPL 2023 opener against Gujarat Titans.
