The Spanish club has been a long admirer of Bernardo Silva. They were looking to rope him into the Spotify Camp Nou in the upcoming transfer window. But it seems that the price has been a breaking point for Barcelona. They have accepted that they will be unable to meet a likely asking price of around £60 million for Silva.

Now, all their attention has turned to the other midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan. The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season. City’s midfielder has also informed the club that he will let them know of his plans shortly. Gundogan is happy in Manchester, but although City would also like him to stay, it is understood they are only offering a one-year deal.

It has been reported that Barca’s representatives have spoken to the player’s representatives and have let them know they are keen to take him to the Nou Camp on a contract double the length. Reports suggest that the negotiations between Barcelona and Gundogan are flowing at a smooth pace at the moment.
The German star has played nearly 300 games for the Cityzens since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2016. He was the first signing of the Pep Guardiola era at the Etihad. The veteran is also well respected by his peers as Ilkay was picked as the captain of City by his teammates when Fernandinho left the club last season. He has also won nine trophies for the club in his time there.

Xavi has been a huge admirer of the player from City. Barcelona has been going through a financial mess and a free transfer would really help them out. Added to this, his versatility and how he can play across the midfield will be a boon to the Spanish club.
