Chennai did not get off to a positive start to the season and have some gaping holes to fill on their return to Chepauk. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 92 was one of the few things that went right for CSK. The Maharashtra skipper is set to continue opening the batting with Devon Conway, despite the Kiwi getting a low score.
Dhoni will be tempted to move Stokes up and use an overseas slot to beef up his bowling.However, with Theekshana, Pathirana and Magala unavailable the scenario is unlikely to happen. Shivam Dube struggled last time out and someone like Nishant Sindhu, who bowls spin, could be considered for selection.
Rajvardhan Hangargekar was the pick of the bowlers and expect him to partner with Deepak Chahar in the attack. Tushar Deshpande was listless coming on as an impact sub. Simarjeet Singh and Akash Singh could be in contention to feature.
While Chepauk will offer help to the spinners, Dhoni will be tempted to try Dwaine Pretorius. The SouthAfrican pacer is a reliable option in the middle and the death. Pretorius could come in for Santner, with Moeen Ali taking over bowling duties.
