Orleans Masters LIVE: Reddy-Sunil vs Stoliarenko-Zharka LIVE: India’s seventh seeded Men’s Doubles pair MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila have advanced to the second round of the Orleans Masters 2023. The Indian duo defeated Czech Republic’s unseeded Ondrej Kral and Adam Mendrek 21-13, 22-20 in the first round. Women’s Doubles players Sikki Reddy and Arathi Sunil will begin action soon. Men’s Doubles
Dhruv Kapila/MR Arjun vs Ondrej Kral/Adam Mendrek
Following their second round exit at the Madrid Masters last week, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila aim to make a deep run at the Orleans Masters. They have got a seeding for the first time in a tournament this year. The seventh seed will be in action against Czech Republic’s unseeded Ondrej Kral and Adam Mendrek in the first round.
Czech pair Kral and Mendrek were initially set to play in the qualifiers in the tournament. However they made a direct entry into the main draw following the withdrawal of Thailand’s Chaloempon Chareonkitamorn and Nanthakarn Yordphaisong. The Thai pair were originally set to face Arjun and Kapila in the first round. The Czech duo’s best performance this year is a second round appearance at German Open.
Women’s Doubles
Simran Singhi/Ritika Thaker vs Lanny Mayasari/Ribika Sugiarto
Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker will be in action in the main draw of a tournament for the second time this year. Earlier they played in the Thailand Masters and bowed out from the first round. The World No.56 pair are eyeing their first win in 2023. They will be facing Indonesia’s Lanny Mayaari and Ribika Sugiarto.
The Indonesia pair are entering the tournament after successive first round defeats at Swiss Open and Madrid Masters. They are ranked World No.36 and enter the contest as the favourites. Their best performance is reaching the quarterfinal at the Thailand Masters 2023.
Sikki Reddy/Arathi Sunil vs Mariia Stoliarenko/Yelyzaveta Zharka
Sikki Reddy and Arathi Sunil will begin their campaign against Ukraine’s Mariia Stoliarenko and Yelyzaveta Zharka. Reddy and Sunil won their first match partnering together at the Madrid Masters last week. After second round defeat from the tournament, they aim to better their performance at the Orleans Masters.
Ukraine’s Stoliarenko and Zharka are yet to win a match in the tour so far. They featured in the German Open and Swiss Open this year and bowed out from the first round.
Tanisha Crasto/Ashwini Ponnappa vs Kate Frost/Moya Ryan
Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Crasto entered the main draw as the third Indian pair in Women’s Doubles. They were supposed to play in the qualifiers. However several withdrawals helped them, gain a direct entry to the first round. They are set to face Ireland’s Kate Frost and Moya Ryan.
The Irish pair are searching for their first win the BWF Tour this year. They played in the Thailand Masters, German Open and Spain Masters and bowed out from the first round in all the tournaments. They enter the upcoming contest as the favourites against the Indians.
