Madrid Masters LIVE: Srikanth vs Nishimoto LIVE – PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth are the only remaining Indians in the Madrid Masters 2023. Both the players will play for a spot in the semifinals of the tournament on Friday, 31st March 2023. Srikanth faces top seed Kenta Tsuneyama, while Sindhu takes on unseeded Mia Blichfeldt. Kidambi Srikanth will be in action in his first quarterfinal of the season. He faces a big challenge as he will be up against top seed Kenta Nishimoto. Srikanth entered the quarterfinal after defeating compatriot Sai Praneeth in straight games. He began the tournament by defeating Sitthikom Thammasin in three games.
Kenta Nishimoto started his campaign in the tournament with a 21-11, 23-25, 21-18 win against Chia Hao Lee in the first round. He then received a walkover from Arnaud Merkle in the second round to enter the quarterfinal.
Both the players have met seven times in the tour so far. Srikanth leads the head-to-head record 5-2. They last met earlier this year in the Malaysia Open and Nishimoto won the contest in straight games.
Women’s Singles
PV Sindhu vs Mia Blichfeldt
PV Sindhu has also entered her first quarterfinal in the tour this year. She avenged her defeat against Putri Kusuma Wardani in the second round at the Swiss Open by defeating her in the second round at Madrid. Sindhu now faces Mia Blichfeldt in the quarterfinal.
Mia Blichfeldt finished as runner-up at the Swiss Open last week. She now aims another similar performance in the Madrid Masters this year. Blichfeldt began her campaign with a come-from-behind win in three games against Iris Wang. She then sailed past seventh seed Hsu Wen-chi in straight sets to set up clash against Sindhu.
Sindhu leads the head-to-head contest between both the players 5-1. They last met at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Sindhu clinched a straight game win against the Dane. Sindhu is yet again the favourite.
