- Priyanshu Rajawat is chasing history as no Indian has won the title at the Orleans Masters ever since it became part of the BWF Tour.
- In 2012, it was an International series and India’s Anand Pawar won a title in the inaugural edition.
- Th tournament was initated into the BWF Tour in 2018. In the last four years, none of the Indians have even managed to enter the final in the tournament.
- The World No.58 was called up to the main draw to fill the places following the withdrawals of higher-ranked players.
- He has shown terrific form as he is yet to drop a game in the tournament so far and aims to maintain his brilliant streak.
- In the first round he met compatriot Kiran George and sealed 21-18, 21-13 victory. He clinched the biggest upset win in the tournament by sailing past top seed Kenta Nishimoto in the second round.
- In the next two rounds, he defeated Chi Yu Jen and Nhat Nguyen 21-18, 21-18 and 21-12, 21-9 respectively.
- Like Rajawat, Magnus Johannesen also made it to the main draw following several withdrawals. He had a reltively easier draw compared to the Indian.
- He defeated Malaysia’s unseeded Cheam June Wei in the first round 21-19, 21-10. In the second round, he faced Indonesia’s Cristian Adinata.
- It was a close contest. Despite losing the first game, Johannesen kept his calm and clinched a 22-24, 21-16, 23-21 victory.
- Johannesen met qualifier Leong Jun Hao in the quarterfinal. He dominated against the Malaysian with a 21-19, 21-16 win.
- In the semifinal, he yet again met an useeded player in China’s Lei Lanxi, who beat a much-higher ranked HS Prannoy earlier this year at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships.
- Johannesen lost the first game against the Chinese. However Johannesen had the last laugh with a 10-21, 21-15, 21-19 victory.
Rajawat vs Johannesen Head-to-Head: Both the players will be facing each other for the first time in their career. Rasmussen is ranked 49th in the world. However Rajawat is in confidence and will look to continue his dominance in the tournament.
